Work Experience
Assistant Pastor – 9/98 through present
First Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg, Florida
First Presbyterian is a part of the Presbyterian Church USA with a membership of approximately 1100. It is a well
established church of diverse ages, which celebrates worship in both
contemporary and traditional formats and has a mission to reach out to
unchurched people through FPC Praise, a program of contemporary worship and evangelism initiatives.
Ministry areas:
- Preach and teach God's Holy Word (my responsibility for preaching and teaching covers approximately 45% of my ministry time)
- Oversee the design and implementation of Stewardship Programs (unlike many pastors, I like stewardship teaching and feel that it is integral to Christian life and ministry)
- Designed and developed FPC Praise in 2003 - a unified program of evangelism and outreach to the unchurched through contemporary worship, teaching, small group ministry, and other initiatives
- Supervise lay leaders in small group ministry program (after only two years almost 40% of church members have become a part of a small group)
- Develop and implement evangelism initiatives to unchurched people (this includes worship, evangelism teaching programs, and community events that are designed to bring unchurched people to the church)
- Develop and produce drama presentations for teaching at contemporary and traditional worship services
- Oversee and aid in the design of all media presentations (developed media team for FPC Praise Worship, youth, and education projects)
- Identify and enable lay ministry (primarily in the areas of contemporary worship, small group ministry, stewardship, and evangelism)
- Lead and design worship for all FPC Praise contemporary worship services (FPC Praise Worship is a contemporary service that has an ongoing attendance at worship of over 200 in less than two years)
- Create musical arrangements for FPC Praise vocal ensemble and Tower of His Power Horn Section as well as other instrumentalists as required (I have either written or arranged over 50 songs and musical pieces in the past two years)
- Recruit and develop participants for all musical ensembles for FPC Praise Worship including youth and children's ensembles
